MIKKEL JENSEN RETURNS WITH UNITED AUTOSPORTS

Peugeot factory driver Mikkel Jensen returns to the Asian Le Mans Series, racing in LMP2 with United Autosports alongside Italy’s Giorgio Roda and Switzerland’s Gregoire Saucy in the no5 Oreca-Gibson.

In 2022 Jensen became the first ever driver in the European Le Mans Series to win a race in all three categories when the Dane won the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps for Kessel Racing in LMGTE to add to his wins in LMP3 for Eurointernational in 2019 when he won the category title at the end of the season, and a win in LMP2 in the 2020 4 Hours of Portimao.

Since 2022 Mikkel Jensen has been part of the Peugeot TotalEnergies Hypercar squad, scoring his first podium in the top category in the 2023 6 Hours of Monza alongside Paul Di Resta and Jean-Eric Vergne.

Q: Welcome back to the Asian Le Mans Series. This is your first season with United Autosports. You raced against the team in various championships over the years, what are you looking forward to the most racing with United Autosports?

A: “I’m really looking forward to being back in the Asian Le Mans Series. I’ve done it three times before in GT, this time in LMP2 … even faster car, will be more fun! Top class racing and my first championship with United Autosports.”

Q: You are racing with Gregoire Saucy and Giorgio Roda. Tell us a bit more about your teammates and have you raced with either of them before?

A: “Both teammates are new, so I don’t have experience working with Giorgio or Gregoire just yet. It’s the first time we’re sharing a car, but I know them from around the paddock and I am sure we will get along well.”

Q: We are racing in Sepang next month. What are your thoughts on the circuit?

A: “I have never been to Sepang, but I heard it’s a very difficult track with high degradation on the tyres. Temperatures and humidity are a big consideration … it’s a proper endurance race, let’s say!”

Q: As well as competing in the USA in LMP2, you’ve been racing in Hypercar with Peugeot in the FIA WEC. What are the main differences between an LMP2 and a Hypercar?

A: “The biggest difference between the two cars is the weight. The Hypercar is heavier, largely due to its advanced hybrid technology. This makes it tougher on the tyres and demands a smoother, more measured driving style. In contrast, the LMP2 is around 100 kilos lighter, meaning it can be driven more aggressively.”
