* ROKiT Venturi Racing's Edoardo Mortara secured victory in the second race of the 2022 Diriyah E-Prix double-header. * Result means the first two races of the season have been won by last year's top two, following Mercedes-EQ's Nyck de Vries' victory yesterday. * De Vries failed to capitalise on Julius Baer Pole Position to finish tenth in a frustrating day for the team after their one-two finish in Round One. Saturday 29 January 2022 - Edoardo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing) led home Robin Frijns (Envision Racing) and his Venturi teammate Lucas di Grassi to seal the race win in Round 2 of the Diriyah E-Prix to cap a storming race for the Monegasque team. Through the second round of ATTACK MODE activations, di Grassi was able to position himself for a move on polesitter and then-leader Nyck de Vries (Mercedes-EQ) on Lap 16. The Brazilian accelerated around the outside of de Vries at turn 18 and held the position, with Mortara also able make it through. The Swiss then swept by his teammate for the lead a lap later, and there he stayed, fending off Frijns until the race came to an end behind the Safety Car after Alexander Sims (Mahindra Racing) found the wall. André Lotterer (TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team) made amends after slipping down the order during Race 1 as the German battled to fourth. Lotterer jousted with Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti) and Jean-Éric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) throughout and got the better of the pair, who followed the Porsche driver home. Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) stealthily manoeuvred from 12th spot into seventh at the flag to claim valuable points from a challenging situation. Oliver Rowland (Mahindra Racing) fired off the line and back from a pre-race three-position grid penalty to finish eighth, with Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team) in ninth. Round 1 winner and reigning champion, Nyck de Vries (Mercedes-EQ) was shuffled down the pack after the Venturis made their way through and following a pass by Vergne which resulted in some close contact. The Dutchman salvaged a point and 10th. After Round 2 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Mortara sits four points ahead of de Vries at the top of the Drivers’ standings, while ROKiT Venturi Racing heads the Teams’ running by 11 points over Mercedes-EQ with Avalanche Andretti third. Round 3 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship takes place in Mexico City on Saturday 12 February. Having been named a Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific factory driver for 2022 he will join the reigning GT Class Champions, Herberth Motorsport as they fight for not only back-to-back tiles, but also another invitation to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans later this year. De Vries took advantage of an uncharacteristic slip-up by Mercedes-EQ teammate Stoffel Vandoorne when the Belgian missed the ATTACK MODE activation line. The pair and Mercedes-EQ were superior from then on, winding up eight seconds clear of third place Avalanche Andretti’s Jake Dennis. Jaguar TCS Racing's Sam Bird crossed the line a fighting fourth, with TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E's Andre Lotterer looking strong early on - particularly in a feisty duel with Dennis - but eventually slipped down from a provisional podium position as his usable energy became ever more marginal as the race drew on. Lucas di Grassi finished fifth on debut for ROKiT Venturi Racing just ahead of teammate Edoardo Mortara and Nick Cassidy - the Envision Racing man also taking the point for TAG Heuer Fastest Lap. DS TECHEETAH's Jean-Eric Vergne followed in eighth, pipping rookie Oliver Askew who'll be happy with his first effort in the series and points on the board - no mean feat. Jaguar's Mitch Evans rounded out the points-paying positions. Formula E’s new knockout Duel qualifying format delivered a new challenge for all drivers with Stoffel Vandoorne taking to it quickest and also claiming the Julius Baer Pole Position. After beating teammate and race winner Nyck de Vries in the semi final, Vandoorne saw off Avalanche Andretti’s Jake Dennis in the final Duel on his way to sealing pole position. Nyck de Vries, Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team, #17, said: "The result might be the same, but the way we achieved it felt very different - obviously starting with yesterday tapping the wall in lap one didn't help. It put myself and the team on the backfoot, then you have to rebuild your confidence and the conditions were very slippery, very different to last year. There is always a lot of track evolution, so you have to build it up in FP2 and then straight into qualifying. So I was actually very happy with what we achieved in qualifying, and then I knew we had a strong race car to capitalise on our qualifying position. We had great pace, the team did a great job and I was a bit fortunate with Stoff missing his ATTACK MODE, but at the end of the day it was faultless from our garage and we managed to win the first race. I am very pleased with the way we managed to win this race and start the season strong." Stoffel Vandoorne, Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team, #5, said: "I'm a little bit disappointed, I think it's not bad to be disappointed with the second place today. I was leading the race, everything was under control, we had really strong pace in the car today - but then I missed the loop on the second attack activation which handed the position to Nyck. We were pushing each other, cruising away from the others and had a one-two finish for the team. It's been a great team result. I can't be disappointed, qualifying on pole in the first new qualifying format - to finish second today is a good one and we have another opportunity tomorrow. You can never have relief in Formula E. The nature of the Championship is so close that the moment you give up a bit of performance, someone else is going to be there. It is not a guarantee that we win today we win tomorrow, but we are going to try and do everything to repeat the performance in qualifying, and from my side do a bit better in the race." Jake Dennis, Avalanche Andretti, #27, said: "I felt quite comfortable behind the Mercedes, I think we were on the same strategy, things were looking quite good, but when the top four breakaway it isn't the best being in third as it allows the car behind to have free attack zones. André (Lotterer) undercutting us ruined our race a bit, but I wanted a podium so bad today – we deserved it as a team. We tried it the first time, completely got it wrong, but the second time I learned from my mistakes and put it right, got the overtake done and then we pulled clear and tried to close down the Mercedes, but they were a little too quick in the end. These reduce energy consumption by up to 50 per cent compared to non-LED units, and are powered by sustainably-sourced biofuel generators. [2022年1月21日，香港]: 香港欖球總會（欖總）無奈地決定讓香港女子十五人欖球代表隊退出二月中在杜拜舉行的「欖球世界盃2021」外圍賽。 原定於去年在紐西蘭舉行的「欖球世界盃2021」因疫情大流行而延期至今年10月和11月舉行。而外圍賽原定於2020年5月舉行，經過多番延期，最終決定於2022年2月舉行。 由於新冠肺炎和Omicron 變種病毒肆虐，令外遊和訓練事宜變得複雜，特別是本港運動處所自1月7日起便已關閉。因此球隊無法為比賽進行訓練，最後欖總只能無奈地決定讓球隊退賽。 港隊原於2月13日在外圍賽預賽中與哈薩克交手，獲勝者可晉級至再下一週同樣在杜拜舉行的全球遺材賽。鑑於香港目前實施的社交距離限制，球隊最早也要到2月4日才能進行訓練，屆時距離比賽也只剩下幾天的時間，令球隊難以作最好的準備之餘，球員的安全也存在潛在風險。 在上屆2017年世界盃中，香港女子十五人欖球代表隊成為欖總首支獲得十五人欖球世界盃參賽資格的隊伍。由於世界盃是國際性的賽事，欖總曾為球隊尋求豁免，讓球員可以恢復訓練。可惜，豁免的條件需要全體運動員實行全面「閉環管理」，當中包括在訓練和比賽以及乘搭交通工具以外的時間都必需接受強制性家居隔離。 對於業餘運動員來說，這些條件都是難以執行的。尤其是港隊成員已經為出戰外圍賽而向工作單位、學校或其他事務申請了一個月的假期，加上回港後遵照檢疫限制也額外預留了21日的隔離期。 鑑於這些挑戰，欖總艱難地作出退賽的決定，並放棄爭取出戰紐西蘭「欖球世界盃2021」的資格。 欖總主席唐諾生（Patrick Donovan）表示：「對於香港女子欖球來說，這是一個非常令人失望的壞消息，特別是一群為了實現欖球世界盃夢想而努力不懈的香港球員和教練，他們一直奮力追隨曾在2017年出賽的同伴的步伐。 欖總十分感謝球隊和管理團隊的所有成員，在這個充滿挑戰的時刻仍能為代表香港踏上國際舞台而作出奉獻和無比努力，我們期待展開新的旅程，展望2025年的欖球世界盃。」 欖總女子欖球水平發展總監候祖瑟芬（Jo Hull）表示，香港女子十五人欖球隊自2019年11月起便沒有參加過任何比賽，但這並沒有挫減球隊的鬥志。 候祖瑟芬說：「在整個疫情大流行期間，球員們已為世界盃訓練了兩年多。她們的參賽鬥志一直高企，無論是在家中透過ZOOM 自行操練，或是在於我們能否出賽的不確定性中，雖然她們大部分都是業餘球員，但她們的無私奉獻和專業精神，一直是世界級的。 值得一提的是，球隊當中有部分為女子七人欖球隊成員，她們在過去幾個月曾參與國際性賽事並經歷了兩次回港檢疫隔離，她們已經準備為外圍賽而進行第三次隔離。球員們真的很專注於這四年一度的世界盃，所以退賽對她們影響甚深。 2017年的世界盃改變了香港女子欖球的視野，它讓世界各地的人都知道香港能夠打出國際水準，這是十分重要的。自2017年以來，青少年球會和女子超級聯賽球會都在談論著四年一次的世界盃，以及下一代15至17歲的欖球運動員，她們都可能有志成為下一屆世界盃出賽陣容的一員。 非常可惜，港隊無法參加今屆的世界盃，但希望我們可以帶領大部分球員一起展望2025年。」 Information source : Elite Step Asia / HKRU

Porsche’s first all-electric sports car is the new safety car in the innovative electric racing series this season. The vehicle will celebrate its racetrack debut at the opening round of the Formula E season on 28/29 January in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Designed to be more than just the Formula E safety car, the Porsche Tycan Turbo S` striking paintwork flies the colours of all eleven teams competing in the Championship, as well as the colours of the FIA and Formula E. The conversion of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S into a safety car required the installation of a roll cage and racing bucket seats with six-point seatbelts as well as wire harnesses for the safety car lighting and the Marelli Logger System. The new workplace of Bruno Correia (Portugal), the long-standing FIA Formula E safety car driver, was also equipped with a fire extinguisher and a high-tech communication system.
