The Arena Grandes Écuries was back to its old glory with packed stands, loges and people gathered all around only to witness Nicolas Demotte's triumph in the Rolex Grand Prix of the Masters of Chantilly. An ideal scenario for the rider from the North of France as he is about to fly off to the Olympic Games where the atmosphere will not be the same as in Chantilly. This first edition – or number zero as its initiator Christophe Ameeuw calls it - was a real success on all levels: "I don't have the words to describe what I feel. The spectators, the exhibitors and the riders came back and gave life to this event again. I'm looking forward to next year, as I've already made notes on what we're going to improve to make this Masters the one competition not the be missed, worthy of this majestic site and the Capital of the Horse, Chantilly.” For the riders, the Masters of Chantilly is already an extraordinary event, according to the words of the European Champion, Swiss rider Martin Fuchs, second in the Rolex Grand Prix: "In a season, we do a lot of CSI5*, but it is for this kind of competition that we work and we prepare our horses; to be in this kind of atmosphere, with this kind of audience and in a setting such as this one. The Rolex Grand Prix was the high point of this first Masters of Chantilly: a beautiful class with a beautiful course where the priority was the horses’ welfare. There were some faults, but all of them light, some disappointing though, like the one of Steve Guerdat and Victorio des Frotards. Thirteen protagonists were left for the jump-off, including some couples leaving for Tokyo in a few days. Among them, the winner, Nicolas Delmotte who started in second position in this jump-off with his Olympic horse Urvoso du Roch: "As we leave for Tokyo in a few days, I didn't want to take too much risks, but I still wanted to win. I could have gone faster, some did, but they all had one down, my choice was the right one in the end and I am very proud of my horse." With 42"30, he put enough pressure on his opponents to push them to the limit, giving him, one month after La Baule, a second 5* Grand Prix victory. A success that boosts his confidence just before the Games: "It's true that I've been 300% motivated for a little while now. My horse is in extraordinary shape. After La Baule, he had a week's rest and after two small courses in Grimaud, he was at his best here in Chantilly. But despite these victories, you have to keep your feet firmly on the ground. I always say that on Monday when you get back to the stables you start again from scratch. You have to try to not put more pressure than necessary on yourself, but I do think a lot about the Games and I need to stay focused.” Martin Fuchs did not give in to the pressure put on by Nicolas Delmotte. He tried to be faster, but did not succeed: he missed out on 36 hundredths: "Second place is still great, my horse Leone Jei is only 9 years old and has very little experience in 5* jump-offs. He has a huge stride, I even took a stride off to go on the last one, but it wasn't enough.” The two opponents will meet again in Japan. “But this time I’ll take Clooney who is much faster!”, adds the Swiss rider with a smile. French rider Marie Demonte was a bit of a surprise guest on the podium, but what a beautiful moment for her and Vega de La Roche who came in third behind two Olympic riders: "Yes, it's magnificent even if in the moment, when you are fully concentrated, you don't really realise what is happening to you. I think I will savour this moment tomorrow and then, as Nicolas says, on Thursday you go back on the course and it starts all over again. This third place is really the icing on the cake of a weekend that went perfectly. Vega had already achieved a clear round in a 5* Grand Prix in Grimaud and finished ninth with one fault. This third place is the best performance of my career, especially in this sublime setting, but I still have a lot of objectives in mind because at the moment I have a string of three very good horses.” Another beautiful story has been written here at this "number zero" of the Masters of Chantilly. Today was a perfect day for the Guerdat family on the Arena Grandes Ecuries, still as beautiful, still as green. An almost honeymoon setting for a beautiful couple’s story. Victory for Steve Guerdat who won the M1 CSI5* Ducati and second place and first 5* rosette for his young wife, Fanny Skalli, in the M1 CSI5* H&H. But what was the most beautiful moment of the day for the Swiss champion. "I'm going to frame this rosette." This ribbon is the first that the cheerful Fanny Skalli has won for her very first CSI 5* with Jonka, nicknamed the Duchess. It was the reward for her second place in this afternoon’s Prix H&H, a 1.45m class with jump-off. A jump-off with only three riders and where the young woman from Southern France put the pressure on from the start with a very fast time. But with 36 hundredths less, Nicolas Delmotte (Citadin du Chatellier), deprived her of the first place: "For me, it's almost like a victory, but he could have been a gentleman", laughs the young mother who can't help but express a little regret: "If I had taken one stride less when I went to the wall, I could have gained a few tenths, but I am very happy... it is my second 5* class and I was already placed yesterday with Jonka who was clear, today she is double clear, what more could I ask for? ... The calendar was ratified following the day’s earlier FIA World Motor Sport Council in Monaco, confirming the busiest season yet of electric racing. Getting underway in late January, the season opener will once again take place under the stars of Diriyah following the success of last season’s inaugural night race. The Formula E grid will then head to Mexico City before visiting the first of three new cities with South Africa’s Cape Town – returning single-seater FIA World Championship racing to the country for the first time since the 1993 South African Grand Prix. China then makes a welcome return to the Formula E calendar in March 2022 before events in Rome and Monaco, with the race in the Principality moving from a biannual event to an annual event following May’s hugely successful E-Prix and the accommodation of the Automobile Club de Monaco. Berlin, the only city to have featured in every season, takes its familiar place on the calendar in May followed shortly after by the second new venue with Vancouver. Racing then heads to the Big Apple for a series of double headers beginning with the New York City E-Prix, before two races at London’s ExCeL and a climatic double-header season-finale in Seoul utilising a circuit incorporating the Olympic Stadium. After two consecutive years of absence due to the global pandemic, Formula E plans a return of the Parisian race in 2023 for the arrival of Formula E’s Gen3 cars. The Paris E-Prix will move to a biannual event format, adapted to provide a new balance for the championship’s calendar. Each year of racing will see Paris welcome the Allianz E-Village, the electric mobility celebration and laboratory of innovative ideas promoting clean mobilities. Irish rider Denis Lynch's victory in the Prix Ducati with his Bushi has given him confidence ahead of the Rolex Grand Prix. Friday's main class lived up to its promise with eleven high-profile finalists in the jump-off on the evergreen Arena Grandes Ecuries, which the riders particularly enjoy. Olympic, European and world champions; they were all at the start in today’s big class. In the jump-off, there were only eleven riders left, including, good news, seven French. But at the end of the day, the fastest was Denis Lynch, the old Irish fox of the circuit, who is now able to leave Chantilly on the saddle... of a glamourous Ducati! With his faithful GC Chopin's Bushi, he achieved one of the only two double clear rounds of the class, but, to the despair of the public, with sixty hundredths better than French rider Alexis Deroubaix, who until then held the lead with Kitona de Muze (Vigo d'Arsouilles). Denis Lynch was already a fan of the Chantilly grass arena yet this new victory in the new environment of the Masters will only make him love it more: "Bushi is a fantastic horse, this result speaks for itself. He has won a lot before and now he is winning again. I am very delighted with this horse and especially today at this absolutely beautiful venue. Today he was on a great day and when he is like this, in great shape, he is an extraordinary horse. He really likes this footing, it’s a great arena, there's a very nice atmosphere as often in France and we're very, very lucky to be here.” The jump-off seemed complicated with only two clear rounds out of eleven starters, nothing abnormal according to the Irishman: "I have never won a competition without touching a pole! (laughs) Today I touched one or two in the first round, but they stayed in place. It was a good day, but I promise you I've never won a Grand Prix or any other event without touching any fences. Today luck was on my side. As for this course, there was nothing specifically difficult about it, it was very fair, it wasn't over big. The conditions were ideal with a very good grass surface, a supple ground where the horses feel confident.” Bushi certainly looked confident and with two days to go before the Rolex Grand Prix his rider seems optimistic: "Absolutely, this kind of victory always gives confidence to the horse and the rider". M2 1.35MPRIX GEBERIT: SECOND VICTORY FOR THE « NEW » CANADIAN RIDER Two years ago, Danielle Lambert was still working in an office. Today, she won her second CSI1* class in Chantilly. An impressive change of career for the 46-year-old Canadian: « I grew up in California and rode there as a junior but then I stopped about 23 years ago and last year started back up again. I called Philippe Rozier when Covid hit and told him I needed to ride, I could not just sit inside, and he told me to come down and ride with him. That was last May, so we are now one year in and I have a great string of horses, Philippe is an amazing trainer and we have a lot of fun. » One of those great horses is the grey Cobalt de Nantuel, a 9-year-old Selle Français, almost 1.82 m tall: « He’s got a big stride and a big galop and he just loves it. VNL bubble saw more than 1,000 participants, 2,250 PCR tests and 7,920 antigen tests over the course of one month with just one positive case registered Ten days after the end of an action-packed Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2021, the FIVB and Volleyball World are pleased to confirm the success of the secure VNL bubble in ensuring the health and safety of participants with only one COVID-19 case confirmed at the beginning of the tournament. The VNL was held in a secure bubble in Rimini, Italy from 25 May to 25 June for the women’s edition and 28 May to 27 June for the men’s edition. The VNL bubble hosted over 1,000 participants with 572 volleyball players competing across a total of 248 matches throughout the month-long competition. The bubble also hosted a TV production team of more than 100 people. In total, 2,250 PCR and 7,920 antigen tests were performed at the event over the course of 38 days, and an array of other rigorous COVID-19 protocols were closely followed to ensure the health and wellbeing of all participants, which will always be the FIVB’s number one priority. All participants were required to produce negative test results both prior to their departure to Italy and upon arrival. Further in-competition tests were also compulsory for all participants every four days, along with an exit PCR test before departure. Following the event, FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça F° said: “In preparation for the VNL 2021, and during the tournament itself, our ultimate goal was to ensure the health and wellbeing of all members of the global Volleyball Family at the event. Our team of professionals, led by the FIVB Medical Commission and VNL COVID-19 Taskforce, put in place a number of rigorous measures which were key to ensuring a safe, secure and successful VNL 2021. “We are delighted that all the teams have now safely returned to their home countries. Of course, I would also like to thank the participants for respecting the rules and working together with the FIVB, Volleyball World and the event organisers, RCS Sports and Events, to ensure everyone’s safety which allowed incredible volleyball action to take centre stage.” Volleyball World CEO Finn Taylor said: “Protecting the health of everyone involved in the VNL was our number one priority, and my thanks must go to the entire team across Volleyball World, the FIVB and RCS Sports and Events for their commitment to ensuring a safe and secure VNL 2021. “I would like to thank the VNL participating teams for their cooperation in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of everyone within the bubble. By all working together to follow these strict but necessary COVID-19 protocols, we were able to give the world’s top national teams an opportunity to do what they do best on the court while bringing unbelievable volleyball action to hundreds of millions of fans worldwide.” The only positive case at the VNL 2021 refers to the bus driver who drove the German men’s national volleyball team from the hotel to the training venue and back. Immediately following the test result, the bus driver was removed from the bubble and placed in quarantine and the German team underwent additional testing with all results coming back negative.
