The Hong Kong Netball Association will be hosting the Hong Kong Four Nations Netball Tournament, from 28th February to 3rd March 2019, at Kowloon Park Sports Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui. Second place in the 4 Hours of Sepang was good enough for the #22 United Autosports Ligier JS P2 Nissan of Phil Hanson and Paul De Resta to win the outright Championship in the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series. The #24 Algarve Pro Racing team of Andrea Pizzitola, Harrison Newey and Ate Dirk De Jong gave it their all, winning the race and finishing second in the Championship. In the LMP2 Am Trophy, ARC Bratislava finished 4thoverall and 1stin class in the 4 Hours of Sepang to claim the Championship win. Driving the ARC Bratislava entry were Miro Konopka, Ling Kang and Darren Burke. Their main title rivals, the #23 United Autosports Ligier JS P2 Nissan suffered a gear box problem that saw them retire from the race. The #25 Algarve Pro Racing entry also retired from the race, securing the championship for ARC Bratislava. The fight for the LMP3 battle was intense throughout the race, but ultimately it was the #13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier JS P3 driven Jakub Smiechowski and Martin Hippe that won the race in dominant style to claim the LMP3 Championship title. In 2ndplace was the #7 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Racing Ligier JS P3 and third was the #2 United Autosports Ligier JS P3. Third place was good enough for the team to secure 2ndplace in the Championship for Chris Buncombe, Garett Grist and Wayne Boyd. In GT Japanese team Car Guy of Takeshi Kimura, Kei Cozzolino and James Calado capped off a fantastic season by making it four race wins from four starts in their #11 Ferrari 488 GT3 to win the GT Championship! It was not a simple exercise as they were forced to withstand significant pressure from the pole sitting #88 TianShi Racing Team Audi R8 LMS. The #88, raced by Xu Wei, Chen Wei An and Dries Vanthoor finished the race second and the #51 Ferrari of Alessandro Pier Guidi, Ozzy Negri Jr and Francesco Piovanetti finished 3rd, and claimed 2ndplace in the Championship. The GT Am title went to the second TianShi Racing Team Audi R8 LMS, the #66. Their race unfortunately finished in the garage with a DNF. On top of the added pressure of it being the Championship decider, the race was run in very high temperatures and humidity making for one of the toughest races of the season. This made the success of the winning teams all the more sweet. News from the team: We are very happy to announce a huge leap forward in our activities. Besides participating in the ACO’s European Le Mans Series, we extend our commitment to endurance racing, by hopefully attending to the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. And not least, we will have a two-car setup in the Asian Le Mans Series in 2019/2020, joining with our two Dallara P217 Gibson cars, in the LMP2 PRO class. This comes as the current generation of Dallara LMP2 cars have been granted access to the Asian Le Mans Series for the 2019/2020 season. With an interesting schedule, running in several continents, the Asian Le Mans Series is looking very attractive to both drivers and teams. And as an extra motivation, the top prize for the best PRO-team will be an entry to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020. Therefore, we are reaching out to new drivers to take part in some testing during this summer. And right now, we are working on a possibility to participate in selected ELMS races, as a guest driver. Team manager Peter Utoft expressed his joy of the news: “We are very happy with the expansion of our activities. In the past 3 seasons we have been successful in building a solid foundation for High Class Racing, and now we are ready to take it a step further. “The Asian Le Mans Series has proven very popular with both drivers, teams, media and spectators, so in our perspective, it was the right choice. We hope this puts us in a spot, where we will be able to expand to a two-car setup in the ELMS as well – hopefully already in 2020. “We have to race-ready Dallara P217 Gibsons, waiting for drivers – so here is our proposal for LMP2 drivers, let us join together in some great racing”, Peter Utoft said. After experiencing strong growth this season, the Asian Le Mans Series is set to offer teams and drivers new challenges and exciting firsts in the 2019/20 Series. With an increased audience, particularly in China, growing engagement and reach online, as well as a grid that has grown in depth and quality, the Asian Le Mans Series is cementing its position not only in Asia, but globally. New Calendar: Just as it did this season, the 2019/20 Asian Le Mans Series will feature four races each of four hours in length, and it will again start in China at the Shanghai International Circuit on the final weekend of November. The opening race will continue to be run in conjunction with the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC). As was recently announced (see here) 2020 will see the Series’ first visit to Australia. The second round of the Championship will be held on the 12th of January 2020 at The Bend. The Bend is Australia’s newest permanent circuit and is located approximately 100km from Adelaide in South Australia. The Asian Le Mans Series will be the first series to use the full 7.77km configuration of the circuit. In a change to their traditional season ending date, the third round of the Championship will be held at the Sepang International Circuit. The race will be held on Saturday the 15th February in 2020. In another first for the series, the 4 Hours of Sepang will finish at night with the second half of the race being run after sunset. The final round of the 2019 /20 Asian Le Mans Series will be held at the Buriram International Circuit on the 23rd of February 2020. Moving away from the traditional mid January date, the Thai circuit will instead host the final round of the Championship. The 2019/20 Asian Le Mans Series calendar has been designed to ensure it avoids clashes with other Asian series and major events in the region, whilst also allowing for transport times for those teams from around the world wishing join the Series. 2019/20 Asian Le Mans Series Calendar details: Round 1: 22 – 24 November 2019 Shanghai International Circuit, China Round 2: 10 – 12 January 2020 The Bend, South Australia Round 3: 14 – 15 February 2020 Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia Round 4: 21 – 23 February 2020 Buriram Chang International Circuit, Thailand 24 Hours of Le Mans – Four invitations: The four invitations to the ‪2020 24‬ Hours of Le Mans will be awarded in the same way they were for the 2018/19 season. The winners of the LMP2, LMP2 AM Trophy, LMP3 and GT classes will each receive an invitation to compete in the iconic race. Class structure: The Class structure of the 2019/20 Asian Le Mans Series will only see one change from the 2018/19 season. The Series will continue to provide a mix of both prototype and GT cars that is synonymous with Le Mans racing. The only change will be to the cars eligible in the LMP2 and LMP2 Am categories. From the 2019/20 Asian Le Mans Series, the latest generation LMP2 cars will be eligible to race in the outright class.The older generation cars will continue to be eligible within the Series, however from the 2019/20 season they will be limited to just the LMP2 Am Trophy class. [2019年2月21日，香港]： 來自34個欖球總會的40支國家隊將雲集全球最盛大的賽事「國泰航空/滙豐香港國際七人欖球賽2019」(4月5-7日) ，在這片英雄地一決高下。40路雄師聚首一堂令香港成為今年全球最大規模的欖球盛會。 16支男子隊將在「國泰航空/滙豐香港國際七人欖球賽」中力爭這「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」第7分站的錦標，另外各有12支男女子隊分途在「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽– 外圍賽」出撃，希望登上下季世界系列賽的列車。 「香港國際七人欖球賽」預計吸引逾120,000名地球迷到香港大球場朝聖，享受一連三日的精彩欖球娛樂，而這全球矚目的體壇盛事之一亦充分實現「Hong Kong Sevens, where the world comes to play」的賽事主題。 除了綠茵場的激戰外，香港欖球總會(欖總)繼續致力將賽事魅力散播至更廣社區的層面。「香港國際七人欖球賽」今年再走上街頭，於球場外的兩個地方舉行公眾互動。欖總過去所舉辦的街頭活動吸引的人流較場內三日累計的120,000入場人次更多。 除了週末狂歡和繼續扶持本地社區欖球成長外，欖總與國際知名的勞倫斯世界體育公益計劃攜手行善，該計劃更是「國泰航空/滙豐香港國際七人欖球賽」的首個官方慈善合作機構。 今季系列賽總成績前四名的球隊將自動獲得2020年東京奧運的參賽資格，場上的鬥爭異常激烈，一眾七人賽星級戰將已準備就緒，期待在香港大球場一顯身手。 美國在今季興波作浪，憑穩定的表現闖入首4個分站的決賽，縱使在杜拜和悉尼分站的銀盃決賽向新西蘭稱臣，但仍與新西蘭一樣手持76分並列積分榜首位。 其他爭標者也亦步亦趨，斐濟上年在香港站完成4連霸，成績前無古人，可見今年亦將繼續為刷新歷史而奮鬥，而他們的實力亦有目共睹，他們今季在南非站和新西蘭站兩挫美國，現時手握72分於積分榜排名第三 。 「球迷寵兒」南非和英格蘭分別以57分和55分位列第四及五名。拉斯維加斯站和溫哥華站前的系列賽積分榜餘下的排名為澳洲、蘇格蘭、西班牙、阿根廷、薩摩亞、加拿大、法國、肯雅、威爾斯和日本。 一眾球壇新勢力亦對「七欖週末」的男女子外圍賽磨拳擦掌，優勝隊伍可升班至下季的「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」 。 男子外圍賽方面，日本去年獲得升班資格，上年角逐香港站的12雄師中有10隊將再次赴會，當中3隊更是上屆的銀盃四強份子。 德國在上年的銀盃決賽功虧一簣，俄羅斯從上季的系列賽降班，愛爾蘭闊別香港站逾10年後上年再參賽。 「非洲雄師」烏干達和津巴布韋、北美洲的牙買加、「南美孖寶」烏拉圭和智利連續兩年參賽以及「大洋洲雙星」庫克群島和東加也力爭升班資格。 香港和繼2012年首次參加香港站的系列賽後再度登場的菲律賓力圖為亞洲爭光。 「世界女子七人欖球系列賽-外圍賽」的競爭性與日俱增，隊伍力爭亮相香港大球場， 為戰情火上加油。 東道主香港將與11支世界各地好手角力，當中9隊上年也有參賽，老對手狹路相逢肯定帶來連場激戰；而中國在上屆決賽勇挫南非升班至系列賽，今屆升班資格鹿死誰手仍是未知之數。 初試啼聲的烏干達令「香港女子七人欖球系列賽」暨「世界女子七人欖球系列賽-外圍賽」的累計參賽國在過去22年增至42個。上年在四強不敵南非的肯雅也將赴會，另外兩位上屆四強份子比利時和波蘭，以及自1997年首戰香港站而闊別至今的蘇格蘭組成了「歐洲兵團」。其他參賽球隊還有「美洲佳麗」墨西哥、巴西和阿根廷、大洋洲的巴布亞新畿內亞。另從系列賽降班的日本將與亞洲老對手哈薩克和香港亦將於外圍賽重逢。 所有參賽球隊將由3月11日的「國泰航空/滙豐香港國際七人欖球賽」抽籤儀式決定分組局勢。 「M」品牌活動致力提升香港為亞洲體育盛事之都的形象，國泰航空/匯豐香港七人欖球賽」作為獲授「M」品牌的大型體育活動，象徵為本地體壇日曆上一項精彩刺激及具標誌性的盛事，引以為榮。 資料及相片來源 : Elite Step Asia / HKRU
