Asian Le Mans Series Races into the Dark for the First Time! The countdown is on to the first race under lights for the Asian Le Mans Series! While Sepang has been a regular fixture on the Asian Le Mans Series calendar, this season the race will feature a first for the Series – racing at night! In a change to the normal format, both qualifying and the race will be held on Saturday, with the race starting at 17:00 and finishing at 21:00 local time. Thursday 13th February Testing: 16:10 – 17:10 & 18:30 – 19:30 Friday 14th February 16:25 – 17:55 Free Practice 1 20:00 – 21:30 Free Practice 2 Saturday 15th February 12:00 – 12:15 Qualifying GT 12:30 – 12:45 Qualifying LMP3 13:00 – 13:15 Qualifying LMP2 and LMP2 Am Championship Battles: The battle for the outright Championship has delivered some fierce battles in the first half of the season. With two wins, G Drive Racing by Algarve is leading the Championship by 13 points from Eurasia Motorsport. Thunderhead Carlin Racing are just 6 points further behind Eurasia Motorsport meaning the battle for outright glory, and the invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans is far from over. After their cars were delayed in shipping to the opening round in China which meant they did not arrive until the day before race day, Rick Ware Racing bounced back in the best way possible at The Bend. The team finished first and second in the LMP2 Am class, and the #52 is currently leading the class. Just one point separates Nielsen Racing and Inter Europol Competition in the LMP3 Class battle. Each team has won one race and finished second in the other – with just the point for pole position at The Bend giving Nielsen Racing the narrowest of leads. The GT Class is another where the battle is intense. Just two points separate Car Guy and D’station Racing, and HubAuto Corsa just five points further back. New LMP3 Entry and changes to the driver line up: For the second half of the season, Graff will be running an additional LMP3. In Sepang this car will be raced by Matthias Kaiser and Rory Penttinen. After a one off appearance for Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen in Australia, Masataka Yanagida will be back behind the wheel of the #1 Eurasia Motorsport Ligier JS P217 in Sepang. The #14 Inter Europol Competition Ligier JP S3 will feature a new line up for the final two rounds. Dan Wells is making a return to the Series for the first time since 2015 and he will be joined by Philip Kadoorie in the teams second Ligier JS P3. Team JLOC will also have a slight change to their driver line up for the second half of the Championship. The teams regular Super GT driver Takashi Kogure will replace Andre Couto in the #88 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo. Due to unforeseen personal reasons, team owner and driver, Miro Konopka has made the difficult decision to withdraw the ARC Bratislava entry. After suffering extensive damage to the RLR MSport Oreca 05 Nissan at The Bend the team has made the decision to withdrawn from the remaining two rounds. As a direct result of the the Coronavirus outbreak in China there are currently significant travel restrictions placed on those based in China. This has unfortunately had an impact on the travel of FIST Team AAI, (who were due to debut their Porsche in Sepang), and Astro Veloce Motorsports. The travel restrictions have prevented many of their staff leaving China, and as a result both teams have had to withdraw from the final two rounds of the Championship. The Asian Le Mans Series is closely monitoring all related health and travel advisories that are being issued about the Novel Coronavirus situation in China. The current advice does not have an impact on the running of the 4 Hours of Sepang and the 4 Hours of Buriram. How to watch the Asian Le Mans Series: As this will be the first time the Asian Le Mans Series has raced under lights, the Series will also live stream, with full commentary, Free Practice 2. This session will be held on Friday evening between 18:30 – 19:30. As always, the Asian Le Mans Series will be available live, and for free around the world via the extensive streaming broadcasts of qualifying and the races. In addition to live streams on the Series Facebook, You Tube pages and website. The race will also be live streamed on MotorTrendOnDemand in Europe and the USA, on RCTI+ in Indonesia, and on Motorsport.tv. and their Russian site, ru.motorsport.tv. This season, every race will also benefit from multiple Chinese live streams which Chinese commentary on channels including Tencent Sport. Post race, there will be a tv highlights package that will be broadcast globally. The Asian Le Mans Series has an extensive broadcast package that was watched by 5.81 million world wide in the 2018/2019 season. By making the live stream available for free and in full around the world, the Asian Le Mans Series is one of the most accessible race series globally. The Series’ TV package alone has a potential reach of close to half a billion viewers around the globe. PATTAYA Thailand, February 4: Yu-Chiang Hou and Yu-Sang Hou, sisters from Chinese Taipei, will tee it up in the third edition of the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) from 12-15 February at the Siam Country Club Waterside in Pattaya, Thailand. At 19-years-old, Yu-Chiang, the younger of the Hou sisters, enters the prestigious championship as the highest ranked player in the field at number three on the World Amateur Golf Rankings® (WAGR®). The in-form Yu-Chiang finished runner-up at the start of the month in the Taiwan LPGA’s Hitachi Ladies Classic and has already won an impressive three professional titles including two on the TLPGA and one on the Chinese LPGA tours. Following her elder sister into the University of Arizona Wildcats team, Yu-Chiang was named Pac-12 Golfer of the Month in her first month of college last year. “I am very excited about the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific and I am looking forward to having a good week in Pattaya,” said Yu-Chiang, who finished tied 29th in the inaugural WAAP in Singapore and tied 17th last year when championship was held in Japan. “The WAAP is the biggest championship we play in the region and there are some excellent opportunities for the champion. I have always dreamed of playing in major championships and trying to get there through the WAAP is my goal. “I feel like I am a much-improved player this year and I have a lot of confidence and belief in my own abilities. Obviously, we will be playing against some of the finest players in the Asia-Pacific region and I will have to produce my best effort to make my dream come true.” Elder sister Yu-Sang, 20, also knows what it takes to win having recorded victories last year in the American college system, as well as against the professionals on the Taiwan LPGA, to be ranked 34th in the WAGR®. “It’s always great when we are playing the same tournament. We are able to help each other on the golf course,” said Yu-Sang, who finished tied 24th and tied 28th in the first two editions of WAAP. “Yu-Chiang has a very good short game and I am pretty good off the tee so we complement each other. And when we are off the golf course, it’s always good to have a fun company like her to relax.” Alongside the Hou sisters, Chinese Taipei will also be represented by 16-year-old Chia Yen Wu. The world number 32 created history in the 2017 US Women’s Amateur when she won her marathon quarter-final match against American Lauren Stephenson after 12 extra holes. On that day, Wu became the youngest semi-finalist and her quarter-final match became the longest in the championship’s history. With three players inside the top-35 of the WAGR, Chinese Taipei will have the strongest team in this year’s WAAP, which has established itself as the region’s premier women’s amateur championship. Chinese Taipei will also be represented by Ya-Chun Chang, Ting Yu Chen and Yu Tien Kuo. The competing players will all be eyeing the incredible rewards lined up for the 2020 champion. The winner will earn starts in two major championships; the AIG Women’s British Open and The Evian Championship, as well as the Hana Financial Group Championship and a further three championships around the world. This decision is a precautionary measure following the recent developments in the 2019-nCoV Coronavirus outbreak which is currently affecting the city of Hong Kong, Mainland China and across the APAC region. “With more than 35,000 people expected from Hong Kong, Asia and around the world, the safety of our audience, athletes, visitors, exhibitors, service providers, internal teams, as well as that of the horses taking part in the Longines Masters of Hong Kong, is an absolute priority,” says Christophe Ameeuw, Founder and President of EEM. “Considering the uncertainty surrounding the 2019-nCoV Coronavirus outbreak, and in order to guarantee the welfare of our guests, partners and stakeholders, it is without hesitation that we decided not to hold the event from 14-16 February 2020. 香港女子乒乓球隊不負眾望，周五（23日）在葡萄牙貢多馬爾（Gondomar）舉行的「國際乒聯2020東京奧運世界團體資格賽」以直落場數3：0勇挫白俄羅斯，躋身8強「一炮三響」，一口氣袋走東奧女團及2席女單合共3張入場券。 港女乒被列為頭號種子，首圈同空直闖16強，抽籤得以避開總教練陳江華口中「最可怕對手」朝鮮，形勢大好。她們今晚登場迎戰氣走泰國的白俄羅斯，論往績、實力港將俱佔上風。首場雙打由杜凱琹／李皓晴打頭陣，二人苦戰下憑決勝第5局贏「刁時」，以3：2 （11：7、8：11、9：11、11：4、13：11）險挫Daria Trigolos／Nadezhda Bogdanova，為港拔下頭籌。 蘇慧音第2場單打面對Viktoria Pavlovich順利以3：1（11：8、11：6、7：11、11：3）奏凱，杜凱琹緊接在第3場單打又以直落3：1（11：1、9：11、11：7、11：4）「埋齋」，香港隊宣告拿下女團參賽資格，另有2個女單席位，連同黃鎮廷／杜凱琹去年12月透過「2019國際乒聯世界巡迴賽總決賽」獲得混雙名額，港乒目前已有4張東京奧運入場券。 李皓晴賽後表示：「拿到資格很開心，第一次打這種團體預選賽，打之前壓力也很大 ，因為非勝不可，過程很艱難，但結果是很好，離奧運獎牌又走近一步。」港隊總教練陳江華則謂：「主要是打心理素質，一場過的比賽讓球員心態壓力很大，我們始於第一次出戰奧運外圍賽這類賽制，發揮較為拘謹，尤其是第一場雙打，猶幸他們都能頂住壓力。拿下第一場後，球員心態開始放鬆，蘇慧音應付削球手表現很好，算是突破，杜凱琹也不俗，希望東京奧運時港隊能為大家帶來驚喜。」 女團其餘16強賽事，朝鮮以3：1力克4號種子韓國，連同2號種子中華台北、3號種子新加坡、傳統歐洲勁旅匈牙利、波蘭及羅馬尼亞等亦順利登上東奧列車。 男團方面，昨以3：2淘汰新加坡的港隊於稍後時間與塞爾維亞交鋒，只要再下一城就可再添3張門票。 資料及相片來源 : HKTTA
