RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA (May 17, 2018) - The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is set to make its debut in the Middle East next season in Riyadh, with the Saudi Arabian capital scheduled to host the opening round of season five in December. In a double-first for the electric street racing series, Formula E will bring international motorsport to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the very first time as part of a 10-year agreement with the General Sports Authority and Saudi Arabian Motor Federation. Alongside hosting the first fully-electric race in the region, the exciting news signals the start of a new era of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship with the eagerly-anticipated competitive debut of the next generation cars in Riyadh. [Hong Kong, 17 May 2018]: HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens champions Leicester City go into the defence of their title at Happy Valley this weekend confident of retaining the trophy they won 12 months ago at Hong Kong Football Club. Leicester City kick off their challenge for a third title in six years when they take on Singapore Cricket Club on Saturday before facing newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion and HKFC Red Dragons in Group D of the Main Event. Leicester City captain Darnell Johnson, who led his side to the title last year, believes he and his team mates can pull off a repeat performance at this year’s event. “We’re all good to go,” said Johnson. “We’re confident going into this year’s competition and we’ll be trying to retain the title. We’ve been out there and so far it’s been hot, the other teams look better and it’s going to be a tough test. “Looking at the players we know from back in England, I know it’s going to be tough. And from what I remember from last year, the Hong Kong teams were very good because they play this game regularly and are well equipped and know what to do. “ Fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion join Leicester City in Group D as they make their first-ever appearance in the competition and captain James Tilley is looking forward to the challenge his team will face over the weekend. “As a team we’re all really excited,” said Tilley. “We’re really excited to get out there on Saturday and show what we can do. “We are good technically as a team, good at passing, so we’ll play our own game but it’s going to be hard. Seven-a-side on a big pitch means there’s going to be a lot of running involved. And in this heat as well, it’s going to be different to England. “We’re going to go out and do our best and give what we can. We’ll see what happens.” Sixteen teams will face off for the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens title in the Main Event while 10 teams will also play in the Masters Events, contested by teams featuring players over 35 years of age. Group A of the Main Event features West Ham United, Wellington Phoenix from New Zealand, Japan’s Kashima Antlers and a Yau Yee League Select, while Group B will be contested by Aston Villa, Italy’s Cagliari Calcio, Kitchee and HKFC Captain’s Select. Newcastle United and Glasgow Rangers both return to play in Group C alongside Hong Kong Football Club and newcomers Newcastle Jets from Australia. “We’re well prepared,” said Jets captain Solomon-John Moanhan-Vaiika. “It’s going to be different, but we expect to do our best. 4 grade 1 circuits, 4 countries, 4 races, and 4 invitations to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Entries for the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series are now officially open. The new season is set to be bigger and better than the 2017/18 season that delivered record coverage for the teams, drivers and sponsors. With a growing supporter base, a significant broadcast programme including a growing Chinese media partnership, the Series is cementing its position as the premier endurance racing series in Asia. Class structure: The Class structure of the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series will see a number of changes, whilst maintaining the mix of both prototype and GT cars that is synonymous with Le Mans racing. The LMP2 class will be at the front of the field, with Championships on offer for both professional and amateur drivers. The amateur trophy will be open to entries featuring all-amateur driver line ups, while the professional trophy will be awarded to the outright class winner. The LMP3 class, one of the fastest growing motorsport classes in the region, will remain unchanged. The GT class will continue to be open to GT3 cars as well as Japan GT300 cars. Should there be a minimum of four GTE cars entered for the full season, a dedicated LMGTE class will also be created. The existing GT Cup class will continue to be open to cars that have been homologated for various one-make series around the world such as Audi R8 LMS Cup, Ferrari Challenge, Lamborghini Super Trofeo and Porsche Carrera Cup. In addition, from the start of the 2018/19 Season, teams will also be able to enter GT4 cars. The GT Cup class will be reserved for amateur drivers. 24 Hours of Le Mans – Four invitations: As in previous years, the winner of the LMP2 and LMP3 classes will each receive an invitation to compete in the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2019. For the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series, there will be an added recognition for LMP2 amateur entries – not only will they be fighting for their own Championship honours, there will also be an elusive invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the winning team. There will also be one invitation to race in the LM GTE Am class for the winner of the GT class. Calendar - A season opener at Shanghai International Circuit: The season, that will feature four races of four hours in length, commences at the end of November. This will ensure it avoids clashes with other Asian series, whilst also giving teams from around the world the time to join. The 2018/19 season open at the Shanghai International Circuit, the first of four FIA Grade 1 Circuits the Asian Le Mans Series will visit. The race will be run in conjunction with the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC), adding to the profile of the event in China. The Series will again race in Fuji Speedway in December, and it will return to the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand in mid-January. The round will again be held as a part of Children’s Day activities after the event was a huge success earlier this year, drawing a crowd of over 100,000. The final round will again be held at the Sepang International Circuit although this season it will be held later, at the end of February, after the Chinese New Year period. Broadcast Schedule: The 2017/18 season saw an increase of more than 50% in the coverage of the Asian Le Mans Series around the world . The 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series will again see an outstanding broadcast programme. The highly popular live streams of all qualifying sessions and races will continue with the addition of new social media content. There will again be comprehensive global tv broadcast coverage of the hour long highlights programmes after each race. The new season will also have expanded coverage throughout China including coverage in the MAXSPEED programme broadcast on the Tencent Sports network. 「菁英航運2018國際乒聯世界巡迴賽－恒生香港公開賽」將於今月22日至27日假香港伊利沙伯體育館舉行，香港乒乓總會今日（11日）於香港體育學院舉行記者會，讓一眾剛戰畢瑞典世乒賽的港隊球員與傳媒見面。 有別以往乒總在體院乒乓球館舉行記者會，今次為隆重其事選在體院演講廳舉行。今次為香港歷來首次舉辦世界巡迴賽分站賽事，參賽球員要在全年12站巡迴賽中爭取積分，累計總積分在世界前列以獲取年終總決賽參賽資格，多位世界級球員均會來港參賽。香港站戲碼包括獲列為男單頭號種籽的是港隊「一哥」黃鎮廷，2號種籽為排世界第8的韓國球手李相秀。至於女單方面更星光熠熠，世界排名頭10名的球手中有7位將會來港參賽，當中包括頭2號種籽、日本的石川佳純及新加坡球手馮天薇；尚有日本伊藤美誠，港隊的李皓晴及杜凱琹則被列為12及13號種籽。 主席余國樑指青訓看見成效 乒總主席余國樑在記者會上表示：「過去10年乒總一直致力年青球員培訓，近年已見成果，不少香港球員有能力站到世界舞台上。所以乒總也是時候再一進步舉辦世界級賽事，今次世界巡迴賽反應相當好，超過200名球員報名，但礙於場地所限，最終落實參賽球員人數為190人，相信屆時比賽氣氛會很好。」 剛帶領男隊以第9名完成世乒賽的黃鎮廷坦言，在瑞典世乒賽逾一星期的比賽對體能消耗很大：「連續數日高強度比賽，體力消耗很大，打完首兩、三天體能已有所下降，未來要學習正是將體能更好分配。」不過在世巡賽香港站前夕，黃鎮廷要先遠赴法國出戰歐洲盃，對體能又一次大考驗，但他謂會努力適應頻密賽程，並承諾香港觀眾會在主場「打多啲好波」：「我較少在香港主場比賽，上一次已經是兩年前的奧運外圍賽，主場感覺很特別，加上世巡賽第一次有香港分站，更希望打得好。」談及香港站的目標，黃鎮廷指期望單打先以8強為目標，再逐步進級，而與何鈞傑拍檔的男雙則希望有獎牌落袋。 至於兩名小將何鈞傑及林兆恒亦分別即將啟程往法國及中國重慶比賽，前者笑言比賽回港後仍有4天適應時差，相信體能足夠應付。至於今次香港公開賽的對手，何鈞傑指每一位都難應付，期望單打能至少晉身正賽，之後再一步步晉級，「至於雙打我和黃鎮廷一直也是拍檔，即使較長時間沒有比賽，但相信默契不會是大問題，希望會有獎牌！」 林兆恒就指在世乒賽一連串的比賽令他的感覺更實在，加上下週到中國重慶出戰甲A聯賽，希望能以此鍛煉爭取在回港後主場有好成績：「目標當然是爭取獎牌，不過單打真的比較困難，所以最起碼希望能出線。但在主場比賽表現應該會更好，因為氣氛也沒有那麼緊張。」 香港站前夕 港隊賽程頻密 女隊賽程同樣頻密，完成世乒賽後回港不到一星期又再兵分幾路出發到世界各地出賽。其中，杜凱琹今晚啟程到土耳其及克羅地亞出戰歐洲聯賽，李皓晴、蘇慧音、吳穎嵐則會到重慶參加中國甲組A級賽事，至於女隊其他成員會於下周一赴泰國出戰當地公開賽。一周後她們就會陸續返港，全力備戰世巡賽香港站主場出擊，或許密密出賽對一眾女隊成員來說是一大考驗，但她們卻謂早已習慣，並會「寓賽於操」期望在主場優勢下爭取好成績。 杜凱琹表示：「近月賽事也算是特別密，我期望以賽代練，在頻密賽事下保持身體健康再回香港比賽。」李皓晴則稱今次香港站對手都是老對手：「繼中國以外，最強對手應是日本，很多都是經常在公開賽遇到的亞洲選手。不過自己每次在伊館比賽都會緊張，希望可以克服慢熱，以興奮心態去調動，盡快投入比賽，想在現場香港觀眾打氣下給我更大信心。」 李靜：「女隊球員步入成熟」 以「驚喜表現，正常成績」形容女隊於世乒賽表現的教練李靜就指隊員的投入程度顯示她們慢慢步入成熟，期望能在主場觀眾面前打高一班：「我對她們在世乒賽的表現已經很滿意，希望有主場優勢下她們可以表現得更生猛。但始終每個球員對主場比賽的感覺都有不同，我會在開賽前先跟她們分享一下經驗。」他又謂沒有向球員訂下特別目標，亦期望觀眾能與他一樣支持香港球員。 總獎金達145,000美元的香港公開賽將於22日至27日假伊館舉行，首2日賽事將免費派發門票，觀眾可於每節比賽開賽前45分鐘於伊館正門外的門票派發處排隊領票。每節開賽時間分別為22日上午10時、23日上午10時、下午3時及晚上7時。 香港隊參賽球員名單（*球員可參加U21單打賽事）： 男子單打：黃鎮廷、何鈞傑、吳柏男*、江天一、林兆恒、關文皓*、李漢銘、蘇致、鄭栢晞*、莊棨甯、羅佳佳、黃健惺 女子單打：李皓晴、杜凱琹、蘇慧音*、吳穎嵐、麥子詠*、朱成竹*、林依諾、劉麒*、李清韻、周穎詩*、李嘉宜* 男子雙打：黃鎮廷／何鈞傑、吳柏男／林兆恒、江天一／蘇致 女子雙打：李皓晴／杜凱琹、蘇慧音／吳穎嵐、李清韻／劉麒 資料來源 : 香港乒乓球總會 / 菁英航運2018國際乒聯世界巡迴賽－恒生香港公開賽

香港乒球小將於泰國青少年公開賽傳來喜訊，在U15男、女子團體賽齊齊殺入四強，雖然分別不敵中國及韓國，但仍均取得季軍一席。 由姚鈞濤，陳顥樺，蔡俊杰組成的香港男子隊在U15男團首圈輪空，直入八強，以3：0輕取中華台北，躋身四強後以1：3不敵中國隊，無緣決賽，名列季席，球員此役發揮正常，實力還有待提高。 U15女團方面，香港A隊（吳詠琳、許煒、嚴浩晴）同樣在首圈輪空，四強以3：0淘汰泰國，及後以1：3向韓國B隊稱臣，取得第3名。 資料及相片來源 : 香港乒乓球總會
