DEBRECEN (Hungary) - USA men and women get wins over Spain and Japan respectively to win the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup 2024 on August 30. USA (men) came out on top to win their third U18 World Cup tournament, catching fire in their opener and never letting up. They booked their spot in the final with a 6-0 record. They faced Spain, a team they’d narrowly defeated in pool phase. The American side started with a bang and held on to their advantage. Kingston Flemings, who made the clutch shot in the semis to send them to the final, tipped off the offense against Spain as he finished with 7. Nikolas Khamenia led the side with 9 points as USA picked up a 21-17 victory over the Spanish side. In the women's side, USA showcased their pedigree in the competition as they lifted the trophy for a record 8th time, 6 consecutive in just 11 years. They battled adversity and went unbeaten on their way to the final, where they faced an equally on-fire Japan side. Both teams traded huge buckets all the way until the end in a game that saw momentum swing back-and-forth. It was Jasmine Davidson who capped off an incredible tournament with a clutch two to hand USA a 21 - 19 win in a blockbuster matchup. In the bronze medal games, it was China (women) that came away with a 21-17 win against Germany. Team’s leading scorer Jiaxin Wang put on a masterclass with a 13-point display to clinch bronze. France (men) took home bronze as well off the back of another stellar showing from their offensive duo in Maxime Carrio and Zakaria Mechergui who combined for 16 points in a 21-12 victory over Ukraine. Nikolas Khamenia was on a mission from the start for USA as he finished the event with a whopping 61-point total. His offensive firepower earned him MVP honors. He would lead the men’s team of the tournament along with Spain’s Alexandre Carrasco who led the way for Spain to earn silver and Zakaria Mechergui who was the offensive hub for France on their way to bronze. Sarah Strong was unguardable yet again in her third World Cup win for USA (women). She put up 48 points throughout the tournament, including 6 in the thrilling final against Japan. Her paint presence on both ends of the floor earned her MVP plaudits. She would headline the women’s team of the tournament alongside Japan’s Kanon Suzuki who was the offensive spark for Japan on their way to silver and Jiaxin Wang who led China to a coveted bronze. AUGUST 29, 2024 MIES (Switzerland) - While USA proudly retain top spot after taking gold at the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024, several other nations have secured rises off the back of their great work at the showpiece event. In a truly absorbing and memorable competition that was played out in front of record-breaking crowds, USA secured a stunning 10th title and their 8th in a row, which sees them remain top of the rankings with 883.3 points. France leap four places and into third spot after their captivating run to the Final. Roared on by the passionate home fans, they only lost by a solitary point to USA as they attained a silver medal to equal their best ever result at the Games. The other big headline makers were Nigeria who also jump four places and into the top 10 of the rankings in eighth place. They sealed a rookie Group Phase victory, racked up two wins for the first time and also became the first African nation (men or women) to compete in the Quarter-Finals at the Olympics. They now make history again as the first African national team in the history of the FIBA World Ranking (men or women) to be ranked in the top 10. D'Tigress found early momentum for their historic accomplishments by beating Australia on opening day in Lille, but their opponents recovered impressively to take the bronze medal. Now the Opals can also celebrate moving up to second place in the rankings. Germany also made history and rolled into the Quarter-Finals on their Olympic debut, having amassed two Group Phase wins. As a result, they have rocketed up eight places and into 13th place in the rankings. Another accomplishment came from Serbia, who were also Quarter-Finals participants at Paris 2024. They have improved their standing in the rankings with an upwards move from 10th to 9th place. There were also movers from those teams who were successful at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournaments in Mexico and Rwanda. As well as grabbing a ticket for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifiers after winning the competition in Mexico City, Czechia are now 21st after climbing two places. Also, Hungary won the competition in Kigali and they move up one place to 15th in the rankings. There was also some consolation for the host nation Rwanda, who accomplished the biggest jump in the Top 100 for their efforts in the Pre-Qualifying Tournament. They soar 12 places to 62nd. Korea, who reached the final in Mexico, has won almost 4 points. The only reason the team is not moving up is because of Germany's impressive rise at the same time. （香港時間8月25日）中國香港羽毛球隊於本週國際賽事取得優異成績，鄧俊文/謝影雪於巴黎奧運會後首次出擊，隨即在日本羽毛球公開賽奪得混合雙打亞軍。青少年隊方面，歐陽穎芝/葉心悠於2024亞洲U17暨U15青少年羽毛球錦標賽奪得U15女子雙打亞軍。 日本羽毛球公開賽於神奈川縣橫濱體育館上演，屬世界羽聯世界巡迴賽超級750賽。港隊代表鄧俊文/謝影雪在本站晉級過程中絕不輕易，每場均要激戰3局才能戰勝對手。包括八強反勝馬來西亞陳健銘/賴沛君(18-21、25-23、21-9)及準決賽淘汰中華台北楊博軒/胡綾芳(21-18、15-21、21-19)，繼今年3月德國公開賽後，再次躋身世界巡迴賽決賽。 決賽遇上中國組合蔣振邦/魏雅欣，雙方於去年10月法國公開賽決賽交手，賽事同屬世界羽聯世界巡迴賽超級750賽，當時鄧俊文/謝影雪僅以3局(17-21、21-15、12-21)飲恨。事隔10個月多來到日本，今仗中國隊甫開局就採取高速打法，拉開了比分，港將處於被動，首局先失12-21。第二局，鄧俊文/謝影雪早段取得優勢，一度拉開比分至9-4。然而，技術暫停後，蔣振邦/魏雅欣挽回劣勢，結果港隊以兩局12-21、12-21惜負，獲得亞軍。 另一邊廂，2024亞洲U17暨U15青少年羽球錦標賽假成都中醫藥大學溫江校區體育館舉行，分別有中國、印尼、印度、韓國、馬來西亞、阿聯酋、越南及中國香港等12個國家和地區報名，共有345名運動員參加。U15女子雙打方面，上月於印尼青少年國際格蘭披治賽奪得U15女子雙打季軍的港隊代表歐陽穎芝/葉心悠，本賽事以2號種子身份參賽，首圈輪空，16強及8強先後淘汰中國及中華台北組合，準決賽再以2局挫中國代表盧昱含/嚴嘉蕙晉級。決賽面對韓國組合LEE Yun Seo / PARK Yoo Jeong，首局比分緊湊，港隊僅失19-21，第二局未能扭轉局面，結果歐陽穎芝/葉心悠以兩局19-21、10-21惜負，獲得亞軍。 資料及相片來源 : 中國香港羽毛球總會 / Badminton Photo

【2024年8月25日】2024全國男子籃球聯賽 （NBL）季後賽第一圈，香港金牛今晚作客以100：82再贏江西贛馳，直落場數2：0晉級，首次晉級NBL季後賽第二圈，將與長沙灣田勇勝爭入總決賽。 香港金牛首戰以33分大勝江西贛馳，今晚繼續採用「勝利正選陣容」，由多米尼克．琼斯（Dominique Jones）、約書亞．卡爾頓（Josh Carlton）、刁展望、孫晨然和朱松瑋先發。開賽初段，雙方打成均勢。去到主隊10：7領先時，香港金牛打出一段7：0攻勢，自此建立起領先優勢，不但比分上領先，而且整個比賽節奏都掌握了。香港金牛第一節三分球著火，10射7中，當中孫晨然更是3射3中，單節交出11分，帶領球隊以33：26領先。 第二節，江西贛馳試圖反撲，一度將比分拉近到3分之差。不過琼斯關鍵時刻挺身而出，自己突破得分之餘，又策動進攻為隊友製造得分機會，助香港金牛以56：48的優勢返入更衣室。 換邊後，香港金牛未給予對手反勝機會，進一步加強防守硬度，令主隊單節只取得14分。相反，香港金牛在王牌琼斯帶領下，進攻端繼續有出色發揮，完第三節贏81：62，有19分領先優勢。 最後一節，香港金牛港將楊睿騏表現搶鏡，進攻、防守都交足功課，單節交出7分2助攻1籃板。最終香港金牛以100：82再贏一場，2：0晉級季後賽下圈。 香港金牛今場有5人得分上雙位數，包括卡爾頓（10分）、朱松瑋（12分）、劉傳興（13分）、孫晨然（11分）和全隊最高分的琼斯（23分）。 香港金牛教練解立彬指出，這是一場艱苦的比賽，比賽的轉折點在於下半場，球隊改善及調整了上半場籃板球的問題。他又表示：「上場我們贏得季後賽第一場勝利，今場賽事的勝利確定了我們前四名的席位，大家的努力付出獲得了一定的回報。球隊上下已經作好了準備，面對下一輪的賽事。」 晉級後的香港金牛第二圈對手是長沙灣田勇勝，賽制上將是五場三勝。兩軍在常規賽對賽過4次，香港金牛錄3勝1負。雙方將在下周五（30日）進行第一戰。 資料及相片來源 : N Square Company Limited / 香港金牛籃球隊

Sunday, August 25, 2024 Vienna (AUSTRIA) - Austria (men) and Spain (women) get wins over Serbia and France respectively to win FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2024 on August 25. Austria (men) just couldn’t be stopped in front of the Vienna crowd. After a slight setback in pool play, they bounced back and booked themselves a final spot against the Serbian Giants. A back-and-forth affair all the way, it was the Nico Kaltenbrunner-led Austria that came away as victors 18-17, earning their first ever Europe Cup win. Spain (women) were on fire all tournament, going unbeaten all the way before handling business against long standing rivals France. They showcased immense defensive ability and caught fire on offense to come away with a 19 - 11 victory to claim their second Europe Cup gold. In the bronze medal games, 2023 Europe Cup winners Netherlands (women) won 21 - 14 against Poland. Noortje Driessen was the offensive hub yet again as she put up 11 points in the Bronze winning effort. Lithuania (men) put up an incredible fight to battle back against Switzerland to pick up bronze. Titas Janusevicius, who had been on fire all event, came in clutch once again as his 11 points proved to be the difference. Nico Kaltenbrunner was Austria’s heart and soul in Vienna as he put up 38 points in their storybook journey to European supremacy. He was named the tournament’s MVP as he led the men’s team of the tournament with Strahinja Stojacic who was key to Serbia’s road to silver and Titas Janusevicius who shot the lights out for Lithuania, putting up an event-high 42 points in their path to bronze. Sandra Ygueravide was on fire offensively all tournament, finishing as top scorer with 42 points, including 6 in the final. She earned herself MVP honors as she headlined the women’s team of the tournament alongside Marie-Eve Paget who was a force for France in their silver medaling quest and Janis Ndiba who was the key to the Netherlands’ bronze. The IWBF 3x3 Europe Cup 2024, which took place in conjunction with the event, had their medals earned as well. Spain (women) and Austria (men) won the IWBF 3x3 Europe Cup 2024.
