It’s Official! The Beach Volleyball World Championships head to sunny Adelaide in 2025

Lausanne, Switzerland (October 16, 2023) – Volleyball World confirms that Adelaide, the picturesque capital of South Australia, will host the 2025 edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. This announcement comes on the heels of the official agreement signing in Tlaxcala, Mexico, the host city for the 2023 edition.

2025 will mark a historic first when Australia takes the global stage to host the Beach Volleyball World Championships for the first time. The host city, Adelaide, will transform The Drive, its state-of-the-art open-air sports venue into a beach volleyball coliseum for a festival atmosphere like no other.

The signing ceremony was held ahead of the final rounds of the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Mexico at the iconic Tlaxcala arena. Key figures present at the ceremony included FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça F°, Volleyball World CEO Finn Taylor, Volleyball Australia President Craig Carracher, Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee, South Australian Government MP Leon Bignell and South Australian Tourism Commission General Manager Acquisition & Development, Jenny Mann.

After the conclusion of the beach volleyball festival in Mexico, fans were immersed in a bittersweet moment during the handover ceremony, bidding farewell to Mexico and eagerly welcoming Australia as the next host.

FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça F° stated: “We are delighted to be heading to Australia for the first time in Beach Volleyball World Championships history as the global growth and popularity of the sport continues to accelerate. Australia, a clear natural fit for beach volleyball, has all the ingredients to put on a spectacular event and I have no doubt that they will.”

Volleyball World CEO Finn Taylor commented: “Australia's selection as the host for 2025 locks in the next exciting chapter for beach volleyball, and we have no doubt Adelaide will showcase an experience like no other. We want our events to be more than just a competition; it’s about bringing an exciting and engaging festival of beach volleyball to the fans.”

Volleyball Australia President Craig Carracher AM said: “Australia is thrilled to take the baton from Mexico as the next host of the prestigious Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide. Australia is excited to be the first Asian host of the Beach Volleyball World Championships and to welcome volleyball fans from all over the world. Adelaide is the ideal host city with a proven track record in hosting global events and world class facilities. Adelaide has been the spiritual home of elite beach volleyball in Australia for almost three decades with many of our top athletes training at the SASI-based national training centre, home to our beach Volleyroos since the Sydney 2000 Olympic preparations. The countdown begins today for the world to join us and the world's best players and fans in Adelaide 2025,” he said.

The Premier of South Australia Peter Malinauskas MP said: “South Australia has a proud history of hosting major events, and we’re going to put on an incredible show for the Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2025. This is a significant addition to our major event calendar. Adelaide is a food and wine capital with stunning beaches, and we can’t wait to welcome the volleyball world here. I hope you enjoy what South Australia has to offer.”
